Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) - Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) offers programs in medicine, pharmacy, and biomedical sciences at its Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, located on the health campus in connection with UZ Brussel. Clinical bachelor's programs are primarily in Dutch in accordance with Flemish regulations, but VUB also offers master's and modules in English. Studying in Brussels provides direct access to a vast hospital network and a multilingual international environment, suitable for foreign students wishing to specialize in pharmacy, medicine, or paramedical disciplines.

VUB requires international applicants to have a secondary school diploma or a recognized higher education diploma equivalent to the Belgian diploma required for the program (diploma verification is mandatory; APS is required for certain countries like China). You must submit your original copies and certified translations if they are not in English, Dutch, French, or German. ([vub.be](https://www.vub.be/en/studying-vub/apply-and-enrol-vub/application-and-enrolment/required-documents)) Language proof must meet the levels indicated by the educational regulations: for programs in English, VUB requires a CEFR B2 level (e.g., TOEFL iBT ≥79 (old rules for tests before 21‑01‑2026) or IELTS Academic ≥6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 per component). Each program may impose a higher level (see the specific program page). Certificates must not be older than five years. ([vub.be](https://www.vub.be/en/studying-vub/apply-and-enrol-vub/admission-requirements-and-deadlines/academic-and-language-requirements?utm_source=openai)) The procedure: online application via the VUB portal (apply.vub.be / "Start your application"). Candidates holding a foreign diploma pay a non-refundable application fee of €90 (online payment upon submission); processing begins after payment. For certain programs (e.g., Medicine), a mandatory pre-screening/external examination is required (registration via the Flemish Region Toelatingsexamen website). Submit all required documents (ID, photo, diploma + transcripts, language proof, proof of registration/attendance at the medicine entrance exam if applicable). ([vub.be](https://www.vub.be/en/studying-vub/apply-and-enrol-vub/application-and-enrolment/enrolling-with-foreign-diploma)) Fees: VUB calculates a fixed amount + a variable amount per credit; the amount depends on nationality (EEA vs non-EEA), the program, and the type of contract. For example, for 2026-2027, a non-EEA example cited is ~€2,200 + €52/credit (≈€5,320/year for 60 credits); exact amounts are published on the fees page. After conditional acceptance, start the visa procedure if necessary: the conditional acceptance letter is used to initiate the application; the student must obtain the visa before signing the study contract.
